UI/UX Principles #1: Miller's Law

text

7±2 - that's our mental capacity. Miller's Law from 1956 states: Humans can process a maximum of 5-9 pieces of information simultaneously in working memory before cognitive overload occurs.

Practical Application: Limit navigation to a maximum of 7 main points, divide complex forms into logical steps, intelligently chunk extensive content. Product catalogs and pricing models also benefit from this rule.

Result: Less overwhelm leads to more conversions, reduced abandonment rates, and more satisfied users. Simplicity is key.
